Re: “Chapel Hill mulling the culling of deer

Deer populations in eastern North America are way out of balance with the healthy carrying capacity of our natural areas and residential landscapes. Too many deer are destroying the food and habitat of many of wildlife critters (eg., birds, bees and butterflies). In the Durham/Chapel Hill-area deer populations are 4 to 5 times a healthy populations.
Pharmaceutical companies seem slow to recognize the value in developing a cost effective birth control method for white tail deer.
Until such methods are widely used culling of deer herds should be allowed. Wild meat can be made available to families in need through such organizations as Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry.
