Matilda the Musical

When: May 23-28, 2 p.m. 2017

Musical satirist Tim Minchin is right: sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty. The subtle insurgency of the lyrics in his stage adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic story about a young girl with an imagination (and a reading list) big enough to rewrite her dismal childhood helped make Matilda the Musical "the most satisfying and subversive musical ever to come out of Britain," according to The New York Times. North Carolina Theatre and Broadway Series South bring the Royal Shakespeare Company production to Raleigh following a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards in London and five Tony Awards during its three-year Broadway run. —Byron Woods
