MASTODON, CLUTCH, GRAVEYARD

LINCOLN THEATRE, RALEIGH

SATURDAY, MAY 9

During the last two decades, Georgia's Mastodon have become a sort of heavy metal bridge. By making artistically ambitious records defined by dazzling playing, good hooks and compelling themes, they've connected those interested in the wide genre's more extreme, aggressive forms with those more stoked on lifting up a cold can of brew and shouting along. As with their headlining appearance at Hopscotch 2014, this street party should skew toward the latter crowd, with a setlist culled largely from the band's later major-label output. It's a simple, terrific rock show. For this tour, they're accompanied by surly rippers Clutch and Sweden's soul-singing retro-metal dudes, Graveyard. When the show ends outside, the old-school fun continues indoors, as Raleigh bands Demon Eye and Colossus pile on the riffs. Outside: 7 p.m., $29.50$35. Inside: 11 p.m., $5. 126 E. Cabarrus St., Raleigh, 919-821-4111,
