Mass Appeal

When: Sat., April 24, 7:30 p.m. and Sun., April 25, 2 p.m. 2010

The North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble is the most prestigious such company in the state—and indeed, so accomplished that its worldwide performance itinerary includes shows in China, Canada, Mexico and California. Admission to the conservatory is competitive, and this weekend's performances of a show called Mass Appeal will spotlight nine graduating seniors. Later this year, the company's founder, Gene Medler, is slated to receive the prestigious JUBA Award from the Chicaago Human Rhythm Project, a prize that has been previously bestowed on Savion Glover and Gregory Hines. —David Fellerath
