Mary Dora Russell

When: Tue., Nov. 15, 7:30 p.m. 2011
Price: with Book

Author Mary Dora Russell has earned widespread acclaim and awards for her science fiction writing, most notably her best-sellers The Sparrow and Children of God, which deal directly with the twin concepts of first contact with aliens and the conflict between scientific fact and religious faith. More recently she's stepped away from science fiction to historical fiction, with her latest book, Doc, continuing this trend. It's a murder mystery set in 1878 Texas that brings together the young Doc Holliday with Wyatt Earp, years before their famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The story details how their friendship was forged and the complex figure of John Henry Holliday. Russell will read from and sign copies of Doc at 7:30 p.m.; this is a signing-line ticket event. Tickets are available with the purchase of Doc. —Zack Smith
