Mark Knopfler

When: Thu., Oct. 22, 8:30 p.m. 2015
Price: $81.50-$131.50
On the strength of Mark Knopfler’s pearlescent lead guitar work, Dire Straits rose to international success in the Greed Decade. Despite stoking the zeitgeist with “Money For Nothing” and playing to zillions at Live Aid, Knopfler never convincingly wore the rock star label. Maybe it was his workmanlike demeanor, or the headband. Then again, labels never fit him or the band, initially mistaken for a new wave act. These days, Knopfler makes solo records, collaborates, receives awards and so on. He’s finally grown into a label that works: musician who does what he wants. —David Klein
