Margot Starbuck

When: Fri., July 16, 7 p.m. 2010

Durham writer Margot Starbuck, author of The Girl in the Orange Dress, takes on issues of beauty and poverty in Unsqueezed: Springing Free From Skinny Jeans, Nose Jobs, Highlights and Stilettos. Using Christian teachings, Starbuck talks about her efforts to break free from the images of women perpetuated in the modern media, and how to "discover why God really gave us bodies and what we can do with them to serve him and others." Look for some comparison on how much is spent on beauty products vs. what is donated to Third World countries. Starbuck will read from and sign copies of Unsqueezed starting at 7 p.m. —Zack Smith
