Mandolin Orange

Mandolin Orange

When: Sun., Aug. 7, 5-7 p.m. 2011
Price: Free

The Triangle has a tradition of great acts whose core is or was at some point a couple, from the Rosebuds and Work Clothes to Veelee and Bowerbirds. Add Mandolin Orange to that esteemed list. The Carrboro duo of Emily Frantz and Andrew Marlin make tender, elegant, folk-based, pop-touched music that often pirouettes the line between sap and sincerity. Mandolin Orange will release a duo of LPs this fall. One, called Haste Make, features the ubiquitous Triangle rhythm section of Jeff Crawford and James Wallace and, says the band, a "full band feel." The other simply puts Marlin and Frantz together in a studio, singing the songs in perfectly restrained harmony. Today, they'll play as a duo in this park setting. This 5 p.m. show is free. —Grayson Currin
