Make, Wolvserpent, A Story of Rats

When: Mon., May 30, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $6-8

Though the name might sound intimidating, A Story of Rats is the solo drone project of Seattle musician Garek J. Druss. But don't expect new age loops and long tones: The pair of pieces on his new LP, Relinquishment, are at once radiant and threatening, with keyboard chords damaged and drained by mimetic growl and hiss. Outsider music insiders should think Nurse with Wound; the uninitiated should think pleasant nightmares. Wolvserpent, coed noise-and-metal collagists who used to go by the decidedly more provocative name Pussygutt, headline, along with heavy Chapel Hill dudes MAKE. —Grayson Currin
