Macy Gray

When: Tue., Oct. 14, 7 p.m. 2014
Price: $36-$67.50
Unless you’ve followed her career faithfully for the last 15 years, singer Macy Gray may only cross your mind when you stumble past “I Try,” that perfect pre-millennial romantic earworm, on the FM dial. But the longest gap between any two Gray albums since has only been about four years, meaning she’s been busy despite not topping many charts. In 2012, for Talking Book, she webbed her trademark rasp through wisps of psychedelic jazz, including a sterling “Superstition” cover. “Bang Bang,” the magnetic single from her new album, finds her recharged over big bass and bleeding electric guitar, like The Black Keys hiring the most distinctive voice they could find in a nationwide talent search. —Grayson Haver Currin
