Lynn Boggess

When: Fri., July 16 2010

As part of the Umstead Hotel's Art + Nature lecture series, artist Lynn Boggess will discuss painting en plein-air, as the Impressionists would say, using only a portable shelter. He'll also unveil works he painted at Umstead State Park while residing at the hotel earlier this spring. Boggess graduated from Cranbrook Academy of Art and has taught at Fairmont State University in West Virginia. His paintings focus on flora landscapes, and he uses a cement trowel to build texture. Umstead Hotel owner Ann Goodnight selected Boggess for exhibition, and eleven of his works have been added to the hotel's permanent collection. His pieces will hang in the Umstead Art Gallery through September. —Sarah Ewald
