Lydia Loveless

When: Tue., Sept. 23, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $12
People sometimes invoke “punk” to describe Lydia Loveless, which says less about her sonic aggression than a lack of bullshit unfamiliar to country. A true farm girl who played in a band with her father, Loveless is unabashedly honest and passionate. She frankly complains “Girls Suck,” demands her lover give “Head,” and cries nostalgically after doing blow at a party in “Really Wanna See You.” Her husky croon boasts a smooth vibrato, too, allowing her to move from classic country to torch songs. Though the shoes are still too big for her 24-year old feet, her new Somewhere Else recalls Lucinda Williams. —Chris Parker
