Luke Winslow-King, Tom Maxwell & the Minor Drag

When: Thu., May 16, 9 p.m. 2013
Price: $8
There's nothing new about Luke Winslow-King's music, but that's not what he's aiming for. Upon moving to New Orleans a decade ago, Winslow-King immersed himself in the Crescent City's melting pot of jazz, blues, country, folk and ragtime, eventually becoming one of the town's most accomplished young traditionalists. The Coming Tide, his debut for Chicago's venerable Bloodshot label, testifies to his talent, with second-billing vocal support from Esther Rose (who joins Winslow-King on tour along with bassist Cassidy Holden). The bonus opener is Tom Maxwell & the Minor Drag, the new outfit of the erstwhile Squirrel Nut Zippers member. (Winslow-King also plays Friday at Raleigh's Pour House with locals The DeBonzo Brothers and The Fair & The Foul.) —Peter Blackstock
