Lucy Kaplansky

When: Sat., Jan. 12, 8 p.m. 2013
Price: $13-21

Lucy Kaplansky has been an East Coast folk fixture for three-plus decades, despite a significant 13-year hiccup. After alighting for Greenwich Village upon high school graduation, she spent five years on the folk circuit alongside friends and peers such as Shawn Colvin and Suzanne Vega. She quit music for clinical psychology and opened a practice until Colvin pulled her back to music in 1994. Her voice is pretty but slightly rough, grounding her emotional meditations. She's slowed her recording output, but her first release in five years, September's Reunion, is a pleasant, upbeat affair. —Chris Parker
