Writer-director Ira Sachs' film about a gay New York couple of nearly 40 years focuses on the grace notes of life among daily internal and external family struggles. The couple (played by John Lithgow and Alfred Molina) get married but are forced to scramble for a place to live after one of them is fired and they can no longer afford their Manhattan apartment. The message is that love in any configuration is universal. Lithgow and Molina's earnest, heartfelt prformances carry a tone poem that is lovely, poignant and exceedingly un-strange.
