Love as Laughter, KDH, SOON

When: Fri., July 10, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $10
Sam Jayne’s fixations with classic and garage rock were always at the center of Love is Laughter, the band the songwriter and guitarist has fronted for two decades. Love as Laughter put out their peak LPs on beloved Washington state labels K and Sub Pop. Their 2001 record, Sea to Shining Sea, remains Jayne’s finest hour, providing energetic rock that flirted with tasteful dissonance without digressing into anything too odd (or, sometimes, too inspired). A recent move east seems to have replenished Jayne’s energy. After years of recording inactivity, he now issues peppy garage rock singles through a vanity imprint and often pops up on small clubs bills in Brooklyn and Manhattan. —Jeff Klingman
