Lost Bayou Ramblers

When: Sat., Aug. 24, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $13-18
The world keeps rediscovering rustic musical styles and treating them like new; the Lost Bayou Ramblers stand out for both preserving traditions and upending them. This hard-touring quartet mixes Cajun swing and fiddle music with a raucousness associated with rock. Former busker Louis Michot, who loves his trad tunes but grew up on Guns N' Roses, leads the band. His deeply grained voice possesses a primal quality that belies his youth. His band, meanwhile, has earned both Grammy nominations and luminous fans and collaborators such as Violent Femmes, Dr. John and Scarlett Johansson. They mix lost gems with cool covers, including the Femmes' "Blister in the Sun." After the band plays, the museum will screen last year's Oscar-nominated film Beasts of the Southern Wild. —David Klein
