Loop 2.4.3, Savage Knights

When: Thu., April 12, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

With all manner of things to hit and chime, New York percussion duo Loop 2.4.3 recalls the sounds of minimalist composer Steve Reich and maximalist weirdo Harry Partch. But within their refined compositions and swiveling maneuvers, these players showcase a strong sense of personality and playfulness often lost among modern adherents of such 20th-century composition. They pair a sense of fun to their finesse, something their software-referencing name might not indicate. Also as the name suggests, Raleigh quartet Savage Knights offer a radical lift of soul-jazz and funk, freeing the meters and the solos to give cello, saxophone and freak-out guitar a wide berth to rumble. Pay $5 at 9 p.m. —Grayson Currin
