Lonnie Walker, Deleted Scenes, Rainbow Nerd

When: Thu., July 7, 9 p.m. 2011
Price: $6

This three-band bill is somewhat of a kids-are-all right moment for indie rock, as each of these acts draws on the clear sounds of forebears to arrive at something refreshing and worthwhile. As it does on most bills these days, Raleigh's Lonnie Walker serves as the true highlight. The band's highly idiosyncratic, higher-energy distillation of Pavement, Modest Mouse and Camper Van Beethoven is leaning more and more toward true songcraft, giving their zest a welcome foothold. Meanwhile, Washington, D.C., outfit Deleted Scenes makes twinkling and scattering music graceful enough to wink at folk and textural enough to flirt with electronics; at their core, though, these songs suggest a crossroads of the Antlers and the Walkmen. Rainbow Nerd, a new acoustic but appropriately flippant project of Hammer No More the Fingers' Duncan Webster and Lost in the Trees' Leah Gibson, opens. —Grayson Currin
