Lonesome Leash, Beauty World, Knives of Spain

When: Wed., Nov. 4, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $7
Lonesome Leash is a one-man outfit out of New Orleans; it encapsulates that city’s spooky, colorful weirdness. “Maps,” the opening track on 2013’s One Foot in Front of the Other, recalls Amélie, if that movie were a dark and dizzy fever dream. The track spins into a peppy snare rhythm but clings on to a melancholy backdrop. “Dead,” meanwhile, recalls Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse” with its fugue-like melody. It’s difficult to make heads or tails of everything Walt McClements does, but that’s a big part of what makes Lonesome Leash so compelling. While making sense of the many twists and turns, you find yourself listening over and over again. —Allison Hussey
