Loners, Huguenots

When: Thu., March 10, 10 p.m. 2011
Price: Free

Garage rock's umbrella is a welcoming one, so one should feel no hesitation using it as shorthand describing this show, even if the featured bands are radically different. The Loners are a Triangle staple whose expert punk-blues offers a study in concision. They pare rock 'n' roll to its leanest and gamiest, serving it raw and delicious. Chapel Hill's Huguenots are the younger, more refined of the pair, but their crisp mod-pop is driven by the same get-up-and-go esprit as the Loners' boozy blooze. The 10 p.m. gig is free. —Bryan Reed
