Lollipops, Jenny Besetzt, Companion

When: Thu., Oct. 25, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

As the sweet, sweet name suggests, Raleigh's The Lollipops make pop music with melodies that stick as though they were cast in monosaccharide molds. But founder Iggy Cosky—a wiry waif of a frontman, all gumption and nerves and barely contained enthusiasm—doesn't lose the world's itinerant sadness or frustrations in his kaleidoscopic blasts. Rather, the pop is messy and misshapen, always teetering toward the brink of crazy and occasionally toppling over it. The much more mannered Jenny Besetzt, of Winston-Salem, have just finished a fine debut album, a percolating blend of Joy Division gaze and indie pop attraction. Companion opens. —Grayson Currin
