Lizzy Ross Band, Mary Johnson Rockers & the Spark, Birds & Arrows

When: Thu., June 28, 7 p.m. 2012
Price: Free
www.locally-grown.com

In its fifth year, Locally Grown—produced by the Town of Chapel Hill with sponsorships from local and national businesses—offers an array of Americana-themed music bills and family-friendly movies. They've added a beer garden and local food vendors atop Rosemary Street's Wallace Parking Deck, too. The summer series kicks off with a slate of three female-fronted acts from Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Birds & Arrows lends intimate lyrical detail to a blend of intricate indie folk and sharp chamber pop built on sweet harmonies and the sparse instrumentation of guitar, cello and drums. Mary Johnson Rockers & The Spark is a crackerjack unit that spotlights Rockers' versatile vocals and writing on songs ranging from bluesy roadhouse romps to airy jangle-pop anthems. Headlining is the Lizzy Ross Band, whose similarly eclectic tendencies showcase Ross' soulful, enchanting pipes within a variety of folk-rock strains. The free show begins at 7 p.m. —Spencer Griffith
