Phone: 919-800-0135

In its fourth year, the Hillsborough Street Earth Day Music Fest has expanded its local focus to land its biggest, best headliner yet, Rebirth Brass Band. As the name suggests, the New Orleans institution reinvigorates brass band traditions with modern additions of funk, R&B and even a bit of rap. The Grammy-winning group's fiery horns, funky rhythms and boisterous call-and-response chants cultivate broad appeal. They should close out the daylong festivities with a crowd-pleasing party. Other notable performances include Big Daddy Love's progressive roots-rock, Al Strong's hip jazz, Birds and Arrows' elegant folk and Young Cardinals' bluesy alt-rock. The festival's three stages feature kid-friendly acts and a cappella groups, plus fire-dancing, poetry, storytelling, art workshops, crafting, an exotic pet workshop and a farmers market along the street. 2 p.m., free, 2302 Hillsborough St., Raleigh, 919-800-0135, —Spencer Griffith
