Re: “Bella's Cuisine has its charms but needs to focus on the dishes it does best

We have been to Bella's numerous times and always enjoy the food and the service! Consequently, we do NOT agree with Ms. Shestak's review.

We consider Bella's to be northern Italian / European fare with wonderful rich sauces and delicate flavors - not southern.

We appreciate the menu choices at Bella's because they feature seasonal, local items and we look forward to their new menus as the seasons change.

The butternut squash soup is "beat your mama" good and marvel at the sour cream and cinnamon rose on top! The winter greens make a wonderful salad choice, too.

The pork tenderloin entree with the grapes on top and the acorn squash on the side is beyond tasty! The flavors are so good together. Another favorite is the shrimp, scallops, and flounder grilled or fried with sweet potato fries on the side! I feel I can splurge and get it fried because the batter is so light and not greasy at all. The chicken Alfredo is to die for and so is the citrus shrimp with pasta and spinach. The steak Diane was delightful and the side dishes complimented the beef. I can go on because as you can see we have eaten our way through their menu and loved every bite!

The desserts are fitting ends to the great meals! The flan was unreal - so creamy and tasty and rich! And the Sunday chocolate cake and ice cream reminded me of my Mom's recipe! We disagree with Ms. Shestak and love the pecan pie - it was exactly as described on the menu and we did not think the bourbon negatively affected the flavor of the pecan pie.

We do not agree that their being open for three meals a day is beyond their capabilities. They are serving wonderful meals and this is strictly a business decision - not something to be reviewed here.

And I have to acknowledge the beautiful presentation of the food! It's true - we do first eat with our eyes and at Bella's every dish is a treat to look at! The other night we were there with friends and one of them even took a picture of my entree because it was so artfully arranged on the plate!

Finally we appreciate the service - which is outstanding! You are made to feel like you're part of the family throughout your stay. There is no rushing you through your meal. And you're not sitting so close to the next table that you accidentally use their salt! And we really enjoy the calm quiet so you can talk without having to yell over the kitchen noise!

We are thrilled to have this first class, upscale restaurant in North Durham! The old dome has never been better! There is one comment in the review we completely agree with - WE WANT THIS PLACE TO SUCCEED, TOO! Please try it - we think you will enjoy yourself as much as we do!
