Limited Visibility: Contemporary Art from Latin America

When: Fri., Oct. 3, 6 p.m. 2014

CAM RALEIGH—It's shaping up to be a big year for Latin-American art in the Triangle. Following NCMA'S Estampas de la raza/Prints for the People: The Romo Collection, a show of Mexican-American and Latino prints—and concurrent with Faces of Time/Rostros del Tiempo, an exhibit of Latin-American documentary work at Duke and UNC (see box on page 48)—CAM Raleigh opens this exhibit of painting, sculpture, photography, video, installation and mixed-media work from more than a dozen contemporary Latin-American artists, including Jose Dávila, Oscar Muñoz and Laura Belém. Curated by Miami's Patricia Garcia-Velez Hanna and Natalia Zuluaga, the show draws in part on the collection of Asheville's Randy Shull and Hedy Fischer. If your familiarity with Latin-American art stops at Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, this is a great chance to see what's happening now. After this opening reception, which is followed on Oct. 4 by an 11 a.m. "Coffee & Conversation" event with artists and curators, Limited Visibility runs through Jan. 4. 6 p.m., free, 409 W. Martin St., 919-261-5920, www.camraleigh.org. —Brian Howe
