Lightnin' Wells

When: Sun., Dec. 2, 5-7 p.m. 2012
Price: Free

The Eno River Association, which serves to protect the nature, culture and history of the Eno River basin, will be selling calendars at this event to help fund their efforts. The night's entertainment fits well with the organization's mission. Lightnin' Wells follows conventional folk and blues pathways, displaying a rich, gravelly singing voice as he picks and slides on resonators, guitars and other acoustic instruments. The pleasures held within are simple but effective, well-worn roots melodies and familiar turns of phrase given new life thanks to Wells' passionate and reverent delivery. Tasked with the upkeep of tradition, Wells and the Eno River Association do their jobs well. The 5 p.m. concert is free for Casbah members, or $3 for a membership. —Jordan Lawrence
