Light the Night Walk

When: Sat., Oct. 9, 5:30 p.m. 2010

Halifax Mall—I have a friend who shed 50 pounds in six months by following one strict mantra: "If it is less than a mile away, I will walk it." Now that the heat has screeched to a halt, let your car do the same while you join the two-mile leisurely walk around downtown Raleigh for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Light the Night Walk hopes to raise $470,000 for the LLS's effort to find a cure for and help people living with blood-related cancers. There is no registration fee, and all participants who raise $100 receive a T-shirt, dinner and a lighted red balloon to walk with. All cancer survivors walk with an illuminated white balloon. This could jump-start a personal drumbeat to improve your health and the health of so many others. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and the walk begins at 7. Register at —Christina Cass
