Leon Redbone

When: Thu., Oct. 6, 8:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $29-31

A throwback to the jazz and blues of the '20s and '30s, the iconoclastic Leon Redbone seemed to emerge out of thin air in the 1970s, partly on the strength of a mention by Bob Dylan in Rolling Stone. Usually seen in his signature Panama hat or fedora, dark sunglasses and mustache, Redbone has a gruff croon that skates lightheartedly through turn-of-the-century roots, N'awlins rags and vaudevillian swings. He's slowly receded from music, releasing but a single studio album since 1994. Redbone remains a gifted entertainer, showcasing an easy warmth and wit. —Chris Parker
