Leo Kottke

When: Tue., March 27, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $30-32

Influenced by the fingerpicked Delta blues of Mississippi John Hurt and mentored by legendary guitar innovator John Fahey, eccentric and eclectic acoustic guitarist Leo Kottke is a virtuoso in his own right. Synthesizing folk, classical, blues and bluegrass, Kottke uses unorthodox tunings in conjunction with dexterous picking to conjure lively and imaginative melodies in a format that's more accessible but no less impressive than Fahey's. Interspersing his instrumentals with stories, Kottke will take an occasional vocal turn as well, drawing from his '70s coffeehouse singer-songwriter fare for well-presented and adventurous pop-folk featuring his rich but unrefined baritone. Admission is $28–$32 for the 8 p.m. show. —Spencer Griffith
