Left Outlet, Henry Clay People, No Eyes

When: Sat., Sept. 22, 9:30 p.m. 2012
Price: $5

Glendale, Calif., brothers Joey and Andy Siara have a near-perverse affinity for the early '90s. The singer-guitarist brothers, who front Henry Clay People, have keening tenors reminiscent of Built to Spill's Doug Martsch, while their punchy uptempo rock follows in the tradition of prickly sweetness (Pavement) and infectious Big Star-biting hooks (The Posies). However familiar the sound, the execution is flawless. The band's four full-lengths bristle with vitality and bittersweet crunch. As the title of their latest, Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives, suggests, there's a strong Peter Pan/ carpe diem spirit at work here, so what better way to find them than live? Local art-punks Left Outlet close the show, with psychedelics-meets-Soundgarden Raleigh crew No Eyes opening. —Chris Parker
