Lee Ann Womack

When: Thu., Sept. 24, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $38-$105.30
George Jones gets a lot of lip service from modern country stylists, but the Possum’s influence rings most clearly in fellow Texan Lee Ann Womack’s taffy-like telling of pain, regret and bad habits. And like Jones’ late-career highlight Cold Hard Truth, Womack’s latest, The Way I’m Livin’, is an intersection of brave song-picking and performance that comes after the singer’s pinnacle of personal stardom. In place of the radio-friendly fare of her “I Hope You Dance” days, Womack offers songs from Mindy Smith, Hayes Carll and Julie Miller, alongside covers of Neil Young and Roger Miller. It’s her best work yet. —Karlie Justus Marlowe
