Langhorne Slim & The Law, Twain

When: Fri., Sept. 18, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $16-$18
Langhorne Slim has made a career out of confessing his vulnerabilities in tales of love and loss. His evolution has mostly been evident through his shift from wild, shout-along rockers to poignant folk-pop ballads. To that end, it’s often clear that this year’s The Spirit Moves was written and recorded while Langhorne was both sober and single. Spirit’s title track—a frenetic charge spiked with mariachi horns—reminds listeners to be thankful the new Nashville resident hasn’t completely forgone his former ways. Opener Twain adds bedroom folk introspection. —Spencer Griffith
