Lady Lamb, Rathborne, Ghostt Bllonde

When: Fri., April 10, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $11-$13
These days, Maine singer-songwriter Aly Spaltro calls herself Lady Lamb, a truncated version of the “Lady Lamb the Beekeeper” handle she used as recently as 2013’s Ripely Pine. The shortened name leaves out some of the implied sting of Spaltro’s work, even though she’s never been quite as aggressive and defiant as she is on the new After. A fully electric record with arrangements that nod to grunge, post-punk and old soul, Spaltro seems to start with a folk song core and build upward and outward. She adds shells around and levels above vulnerable, detailed confessionals. “Penny Licks,” the record’s centerpiece, is one of the year’s most riveting numbers, with an arrangement every bit as undecided as her heart seems to be. —Grayson Haver Currin
