Lack, Jeff Zagers, Lamb Skin, Patrick Gallagher

When: Thu., April 16, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $7
Jeff Zagers has a résumé of experimental discord and left-field composition. But Still/Alive, his wonderful new LP on Wharf Cat, brims with sensitive, swelling pop numbers that suggest The Smiths making muted, romantic pop with drum machines, cheap keyboards and guitars strung with old, corroded strings. These tunes are emotionally expansive, with chords and hooks that rendezvous into magnetic moments. He’s joined by a tag-team of fractured electronic artists. Lack—one half of VVAQRT and Sagan Youth, acts respectively responsible for great LPs last year and this year—headlines, while Philadelphia’s strangely alluring Lamb Skin opens. —Grayson Haver Currin
