La Dolce Vita

When: Fri., Jan. 27, 8 p.m. 2012
Price: $5 ($3.50 for members)

There's very little argument that La Dolce Vita (The Sweet Life) was a pivotal cinematic experience in writer-director Federico Fellini's career, and it's often also the case for the first-time viewer. This 1960 Italian film follows a week in the life of a bored intellectual employed as a tabloid journalist and his dance with both morality and mortality. The film not only helped begin an American romance with art house foreign films, it also changed our language: The gnatty tabloid photographer is named Paparazzo. The film begins at 8 p.m. in the museum's East Building auditorium. Tickets are $5, or $3.50 for NCMA members, students, and Cinema Inc. or Galaxy Cinema members. —Christina Cass
