Kylesa, Burnt Books

When: Sat., Aug. 29, 9 p.m. 2015
Price: $15-$17
Savannah’s Kylesa were an essential part of the surge in Southern metal—and its acclaim—a decade ago. By packing sludge into structures that often resembled classic rock and inside productions that suggested psychedelic dabbling without forsaking the roar, Kylesa could spring from several corners at once. Their last few albums have fumbled with that formula, but there’s reason to believe it’s back. “Lost and Confused,” the first offering from the forthcoming Exhausting Fire, feels like a Kylesa classic and a paisley-cloaked rage—heavy but hazy, with the band pushing the hook forward even as they warp its shape. —Grayson Haver Currin
