Kronos Quartet

When: Sat., March 22, 8 p.m. 2014
Price: $10-52
The Kronos is the cool dad of string quartets, courting au courant composers and posing for photos in black leather jackets and dark glasses, like an unusually refined motorcycle gang. This return to Durham brings a new cellist, Sunny Yang, and an almost absurdly vital program. There's a Duke Performances commission from Victoire leader Missy Mazzoli and a piece by The National's Bryce Dessner. There's a David Lang arrangement of Jerry Garcia's "What's Become of the Baby?" and a Jacob Garchik interpretation of Laurie Anderson's Flow. And did we mention they're revving up a new string quartet with their pal, modern classical superstar Philip Glass? —Brian Howe
