Kraken 5 Year Anniversary Party: Zoltar's Fortune, Too Much Fun, Phatlynx

When: Sat., Sept. 20, 6 p.m. 2014
Price: free
The Kraken, that out-of-the-way bar on the western fringe of Chapel Hill, celebrates five years in business with a free barbecue and rock party. Durham outfit Zoltar’s Fortune headlines with a revisionist take on gypsy jazz, alluding aplenty to the fiddle music of their home region. With a freewheeling approach to rockabilly and swing, Too Much Fun recalls Southern Culture on the Skids and Squirrel Nut Zippers. Former SCOTS-man Crispy Bess helms Phatlynx, originally a tribute to power chord inventor and North Carolina native Link Wray. —Bryan Reed
