Kitty Box & the Johnnys, Jack Maverick & His Wild Rebels, New Town Drunks, Robert Griffin

When: Sat., Oct. 2, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: Free

Arrive early for this smorgasbord of some of the Triangle's more exotic pleasures. Pianist Robert Griffin's supple jazz stylings have backed Taz Halloween, Tim Smith and Katharine Whalen. New Town Drunks' reeling, impertinent tunes channel the lazy sway of Jimmy Buffet and the lighthearted wit of John Prine. Lap steel guitarist Jack Maverick & Co. offer old-timey, country-picking instrumentals leavened with a measure of Hawaiian wobble. The evening concludes with Halloween's smoky, heart-rattling vocals, backed by her band Kitty Box & the Johnnys. Her sultry, velveteen croon guides the way through an eclectic, torchy mix. The free show starts at 8 p.m. —Chris Parker
