Kitty Box & The Johnnys, Dex Romweber, Tim Stambaugh & Friends

When: Sat., Sept. 26, 9 p.m. 2015
This is an appropriate setting to celebrate Kathy Giuffre’s debut novel, The Drunken Spelunker’s Guide to Plato. Though Giuffre lives in Colorado Springs now, where she teaches social sciences at Colorado College, she earned her Ph.D. at UNC-Chapel Hill. The Cave and spots like it influenced Drunken Spelunker’s dive-bar setting, a fictionalized Cavern Tavern in the Appalachian college town Waterville. Rowdy bar bands like the rockabilly-and-blues revisionists Kitty Box and The Johnnys and Americana encyclopedia Dexter Romweber certainly affect the tone and color of those scenes, too. —Bryan C. Reed
