King Mez, The Beast listening party

When: Thu., Nov. 4, 10 p.m. 2010
Price: Free

This is a listening party for Freedom Suite, the just-released collaboration from Durham hip-hop quartet The Beast and Grammy-nominated jazz chanteuse Nnenna Freelon. But this week's installment of Local Band Local Beer will have no shortage of onstage action: Along with a dynamic performance from the astute, jazz-inflected headliners, precocious Raleigh rhymer King Mez makes noise with his honest, brazen bars. Sultry songstress Carlitta Durand woos with velvet pipes, while Charlotte-area hip-hop tag team Brody & Choch kicks back to the old school. Producers Zakee and The Apple Juice Kid make a special appearance with a live set of beats, samples and cuts. The free show rolls at 10 p.m.—Spencer Griffith
