Kim Gordon | Cat's Cradle | Page: Readings & Signings | Indy Week
This is a past event.
When: Wed., Feb. 25, 7 p.m. 2015
Price: $10-$35

Kim Gordon at the Cradle? Sure, she's visited the iconic club many times (and played in four of its locations) as part of Sonic Youth, but, tonight, she arrives with no noise-rock outfit in tow. Sonic Youth split in 2011, following Gordon's own split with husband and bandmate Thurston Moore. Gordon has since busied herself with the two-guitar experimental outlet Body/Head and by penning an intimate new memoir, Girl in a Band. The title nods to the tiresome question Gordon faced for years in Sonic Youth—and that she shouted and answered in a slashing 2009 tune: "What's it like to be a girl in a band? I don't quite understand." The book explores her youth (Sonic and otherwise), her artistic growth and her ignominious divorce with Moore. It's not just an alt-rock tell-all, though, as Gordon also digs deep into the symptoms and causes of music industry sexism. Jon Wurster, the drummer with the double life as a comedy star, joins Gordon in conversation. A portion of the proceeds benefits Girls Rock NC. 7 p.m., $10–$35, 300 E. Main St., Carrboro, 919-967-9053, —Allison Hussey
