Action/Adventure, Comedy, Romance

Recently dumped Jen Kornfeldt (Katherine Heigl) meets dashing Spencer Aimes (Ashton Kutcher) in Nice while on vacation with her parents. After a whirlwind romance, the two are settled in suburbia three years later—until Spencer's boss (Rob Riggle) attempts to kill him after a surprise birthday party. Jen and Spencer face questions of trust and the future as they fend off would-be assassins from every angle. The audience can basically guess where the plot is going from the very beginning, with the dialogue doubling as clumsily heavy-handed foreshadowing. Heigl's performance consists mainly of stammering and shrill shrieking, while Kutcher does the bare minimum to procure his paycheck, flashing his abs and the trace of his smirk. Tom Selleck and Catherine O'Hara slum it as Jen's parents, turning in one-note performances (gruff and wino, respectively). It's a sorry state when the film's most dynamic, engaging portion is the opening credits sequence.
