KIFF, Widow, Volture, Bastages, Safe Word

When: Fri., Dec. 9, 8:30 p.m. 2011

Host and headliner KIFF's obvious love for early punk and '80s metal is reflected as much in this bill as in the band's music. Raleigh's Widow and Richmond's Volture play power metal of the most air-guitar-encouraging variety. Widow's slick melodies and fluid solos offer a counterpoint to the more Priest-ly rawness of Volture. The Bastages do away with the excess, favoring a late-'70s lexicon that ranges from pub rock to LA punk. Safe Word, a new punk band from Rocky Mount and Wilson, opens. The $10 ticket price also promises burlesque performances and other shenanigans, beginning at 8:30 p.m. —Bryan C. Reed
