Kevin Van Sant with Steven Riley

When: Fri., June 19, 8 p.m. 2015
Durham-based guitarist Kevin Van Sant was just a kid in the ’70s, living in Indonesia, when he discovered jazz on a Concord sampler. Following a retro trajectory through instrumental rock to bebop, Van Sant toured widely in the ’90s with his trio J’Azure, even performing five times at Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival. His quartet features Mark Wells on organ, Dan David on drums and saxophonist Stephen Riley, a Greenville native who records on the Danish jazz imprint SteepleChase. —Sylvia Pfeiffenberger
