Re: “Mayor Bill Bell Has Overseen a Bull City Renaissance. So Why Has Durham’s Poverty Rate Gone Up on His Watch?

someone just asked me what i thought about this article again. i said that this article posits Bell as possibly slave to developer interest and betrayer of his people. Steve Schewel is framed as the (former) owner of [the] independen(ce)t. Jillian Johnson is forwarded as the voice of minority interests. Jillian and Steve came to Durham as students. Not that they ain't great. This article glosses institutional influence and probes developer impact.

It's (not so) subtle.

Especially with the upcoming election.

What role does Duke play in Durham's disparities?
