Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Uncle Kracker

When: Fri., Aug. 5, 7 p.m. 2011
Price: $55-99

During the past several years, Kenny Chesney's sold-out stands in Raleigh's big shed have felt like the apogee of country music commercialization. The vivacious showman has emerged on stage after a fun-in-the-sun, product-placement-dependent trailer, led bands with four or five simultaneous electric guitars, and brought rock stars (if you can call Uncle Kracker such) to sing along. It's doubtful that, in the middle of this summer's heat wave, he'll shed the Corona-and-Coppertone approach for his Buffett-abetted country, but it will be interesting to see how Chesney handles the material from last year's intriguingly mellow and sophisticated Hemingway's Whiskey. Could the party get dark? With Billy Currington and Uncle Kracker. —Grayson Currin
