Kenny Barron Trio

When: Sat., Oct. 24, 8 p.m. 2015
Price: $31-$35
When someone has played on hundreds of albums as a leader and collaborator, the musician usually earns the term “versatile.” Jazz pianist Kenny Barron has the bona fides, but it’s because of his timeless lyricism as opposed to his adaptability. Always melodic, his playing can string a listenable line through a complex piece or bring out new emotion from a well-worn standard. He leads a trio for this intimate show. Come at 7 p.m. for a conversation between Barron and Duke Jazz Ensemble director and bassist John Brown in Room 4140 at the Talley Student Union. —Chris Vitiello
