In the video for KEN Mode’s new single, “These Tight Jeans,” the Canadian noise-rockers’ latent violence is immediately obvious. Frontman Jesse Matthewson opens the song with a declaration: “I would like to learn how to kill/ the nicest man in the world.” Spliced between scenes of the band performing, Matthewson, a Muay Thai enthusiast, spars with kickboxer Jon Henderson. That Matthewson—and, by proxy, KEN Mode—would take to martial arts makes sense, though. Like martial arts, KEN Mode is vicious but precise, relying as much on finesse and momentum as brute force. —Bryan C. Reed
